1.0 out of 5 stars Quality Control Concerns, June 19, 2010

My son's second Raven broke before the first shot. Upon cocking the rifle for the first time the mounting block (appears to be aluminum or magnesium) that holds the barrel in place cracked. On the first rifle it cracked after about 25 or so shots.

Amazon customer service was great, immediately provided me with a return shipping label. I will continue to buy from Amazon, but I will not buy another Raven.

I bought this Air Rifle several weeks ago, and have really enjoyed using it. I did install a Scope on it, nothing special just a 3-9 X 32. I like to Target Shoot on my homemade range in my backyard. The Raven is a dream to shoot, easy to cock, and is powerful enough to handle my requirements, without any failure. I even went a step further with the personalization of the Raven, I used my airbrush to paint it "Urban Camoflauge"- Black,Gray,Light Gray, and White.
Oh...don't forget the Price. That alone is a great reason to get this air rifle, and it's a nice rifle as a 'starter'. Just My Opinions..

Size, weight and style were much appreciated by my 10 year old. Sights look good too.

It appears that you will either get a functioning one or you will not. I did not, and found out like many other on the very first use. It seems that the plunger mechanism can arrive lodged in a forward position and lock against the barrel swing. So, what is supposed to be a 5-7 pound cocking effort becomes almost impossible. Increased effort results in a "pop" and the plunger retainer explodes and releases the plunger and the weapon will no longer lock up for firing.

I do not know if this is from dry firing the weapon cocked - not likely as we never got to cock ours. I do not know if this a gravity cause - holding the trigger back while un-cocked with the muzzle down. I do not know if it was just a quality control issue or if the problem could be repaired or re-set before you break it in half. It was really a Christmas morning bummer.
