Ruger Explorer air rifle Reviews
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: Sights Great but Trigger not so good, By Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: Ruger Explorer air rifle (Misc.) This is as described "a youth stocked rifle", however the youth is 16+ according to the manual, even at 12" pull length it is still a little too long for my 6 yr old grand-daughter. More to the point, the 4 lbs weight is all in the fore-end, muzzle heavy, which isn't all bad, but the trigger? The trigger is very creepy, almost a two-stage trigger, like on military rifles -- very long, creeping, scratchy pull until you feel the pressure build, and then POP! a pretty crisp let off. It just takes some getting used to. The fiber-optic sights are really great, but I had to adjust them quite away up and to the left to get into zero. The adjustments, though, are all in the rear sight, windage as well as elevation, which is also great. Height of comb is low, my wife tried it but couldn't use it as she has a stiffness in her neck. A raised cheek-pad would be a good addition. She did love the "racey" look of it; everyone did. 9 of 12 people found the following review helpful: A Pretty Good "First Rifle", By This review is from: Ruger Explorer air rifle (Misc.) I purchased the Ruger Explorer (manufactured under license by Umarex) for my eleven year-old daughter for Christmas as an introduction to firearms, safety, and for family fun. It's been over a month now and I think I can pretty accurately review this rifle (I hate people who review an item and give it "5 stars" before they've even received it, based solely on the picture on the website or their expectations. Or they have just received it and opened the box, and *POOF*, 5 stars because it looks like it will perform well. How useful is that?). I have a Beeman, my wife has a Gamo Recon, and our youngest daughter a Daisy BB gun. The Ruger Explorer is just a hair too long for a small framed eleven year-old, but the weight and cocking effort are perfect, and it shouldn't be a problem for a young child. She fires it just fine from a prone position, and she is actually turning out to be quite the marksman. The rifle has very good fit and finish, and a nice, low maintenance... I'll start by saying the price is right. The gun is accurate. The sights are easily adjusted and the fiber optics makes targeting easy and fun. The trigger is LONG... but you get used to the almost two stage feel of it. The safety is awkward to use, but they made the gun ambi so... (I'm a lefty((not politics . The most fun I've had is rapid fire shooting. Being that this gun has a non beartrap cocking, (once cocked the barrel hangs loose) one can use your index finger of the holding hand to hold the barrel open while inserting the pellet and then just flip the nose of the gun while removing the safety and bring the gun up to fire. When done smoothly the rate of fire is fast and FUN! The best I did was to shoot ten cans in one minute!!! TEN!!!! Try THAT with ANY other breakbarrel. Mitchrx7 |
